July 23 to Aug 3 Still in New York state
Week of July 23-30
Still here in New York state! Or is this a New York State of Mind
Pelican and Loon are leaving Monday July 24, so the group is really splitting up. Our six boats have been together since June 25 in Canajoharie so we are having a pot luck farewell dinner tonight at a picnic table here at the marina. We had a great time – sorry to see some of our new friends leave but we will do our best to stay in touch. Both Pelican and Loon left mid morning Monday and made it down to the end of the Oswego Canal. I heard from Wendy on Pelican that they left Friday from Oswego with Loon to cross Lake Ontario. On Saturday the 22nd, they had made it to Picton, Canada. Good thing this marina has a courtesy car. Took it today and did some shopping at Staples, Target and Barnes and Noble. There are real stores nearby, even a mall. And, we’ve eaten at Olive Garden as well as some local restaurants. Su and I made appointments for a facial Thursday. What a nice treat. Bought a few gifts (and earrings for myself) at Brick House. Su and Jim’s enclosure is done so they invited us for cocktails. We’ve been having some discussion on which way to travel since we are so far off schedule. Su and Jim don’t want to rush through Canada and Michigan so they are opting to go through the St Lawrence, Champlain canal and back to the Hudson, Chesapeake, etc. Since we don’t need to be so concerned with seeing Michigan, we believe we will continue into Canada. We really are looking forward to Kentucky and Tennessee and don’t want to put that off for another year. We believe we still have enough time to see Canada. What we will miss is spending more time in Michigan and seeing all our friends. We had planned to stay there for nearly a month and really spend time taking people out on the boat. That doesn’t seem possible anymore as we don’t want to dally in Lake Michigan too long and take a chance on the weather. We’ll probably try to get as far south into Michigan as we can before we stop and see friends and family. We hope this time next week, we will be in Canada.
August 3
We have had extremely hot weather here the past few days but a storm came through yesterday and cooled it off a bit. Today storms are predicted again so we'll sitting here another day - it gave us a chance to do some laundry and reprovision before heading for Canada. The weather looks fine the next few days so we're planning to leave here in the morning and head to Oswego and then cross Lake Ontario. We will go through the Trent Severn waterway. I'll update when I have access to the internet. Stay cool!
