Georgian Bay, North Channel

Dinner with Bob and Wendy Ellen, their sons Jordy and Greg and Mark and Teresa Witte on Marco Polo Mr Perch in Kilkarny

The Georgian Bay is very rocky!

Seaplanes come into Henry's on Frying Pan Island, is this a marina or an airport?

August 22, 2006 Georgian Bay, North Channel on to Drummond Island -
August 17 we left early and headed for Frying Pan Island. Nice day so we took the small craft channel to San Souci. Lots of rocks but the channel is well marked. Very isolated cottages on these small rock islands that are all named. The water is crystal clear. Seascape, another looper, came out of Pentansique and followed us to Harry’s. Harry’s is famous for their fish dinners so we had lunch with them but we stayed and they left to anchor out with Free Spirit and Drakes Dream Later in the day we saw several seaplanes come in and moor at the docks. At one point there were three planes on the floating dock. Are we at a marina or an airport? Jim and I walked down away and I was able to swim in the water that was beautiful. Friday August 18 we left at 7 this morning with a destination of the Bustard Islands. We went out the channel at Kilbear and are running in very calm water on the Georgian Bay. We did head into Byng Inlet for fuel. The anchorage in the Bustard Islands was wonderful, very calm and very remote. One sailboat and a motorboat were in there. At night, it cleared up and we could see the stars and the Northern lights. Very nice. Saturday August 19, we kept on the small craft channel to Beaverstone Bay ( and some very shallow water) and into Collins Inlet. Lots of gorges that we went through – a very narrow passage. Ended up in Killarney and saw Freedom (from our Trent Severn locking) there. We had dinner with Jane and Patrick and also some new loopers we met in the boat, Cheers. Later, we went to the Killarney Mountain Lodge and listened to a guitarist playing some folk music and things like Jimmy Buffet – good evening. Sunday August 20, we left early for Kakawong to the marina owned by the Bob and Wendy (part of the group we were with in the EMS shelter in the Erie). They had invited us to go out to dinner with them to celebrate their 40th anniversary and Bob’s birthday. We walked around the town and saw Bridal Veil Falls. Another looper couple, Marco Polo, came in to see Bob and Wendy and we all had dinner with them and their son’s, Jordy and Greg. It was a great dinner. Monday we ran as far as Meldrum Bay in the North Channel since the wind started kicking up. Today, Tuesday August 22 we pulled back into the USA at Drummond Island. If the weather holds, we plan to head for Mackinac City on Wednesday and work our way to Charlevoix, Leland and then to our old stomping grounds, Onekama on Portage Lake.
